TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL!
My husband Sameer planned the perfect, most thoughtful proposal! We went to Chateau Elan Vineyards for a wine tasting. I should have already been tipped off that something was up when he willingly went to a wine tasting with me. He asked me if I’d marry him in the vineyard, and I think I blacked out from shock and happiness!
Afterward, we were supposedly going to lunch but instead went to a private balcony where both of our families were waiting to surprise me. We spent the rest of the day and night celebrating with them. Family is so important to both of us, so it was perfect!Â
DESCRIBE YOUR BRIDAL STYLE. HOW DID YOU WANT TO LOOK ON YOUR WEDDING DAY? TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS-SHOPPING EXPERIENCE.Â
I was not sure what I wanted for my wedding dress, but the minute I tried on the Martina Liana Luxe wedding gown, I knew it was the one. The employees at Town and Country Bridal were so accommodating, professional, helpful and sweet. They really made the experience wonderful and stress-free.
I tried on a few more dresses after this one, but in my heart, I knew that there was no way anything else would compare. I especially loved that the over the shoulder piece could be altered so that for my reception, I could wear the dress strapless to make it easier to dance and celebrate all night!Â
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING. WHAT WERE YOUR THEME AND COLORS? HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR WEDDING PERSONAL TO YOUR LOVE STORY?
Our wedding was a mixture of both of our cultures— my family being from New Orleans, and his from Pakistan. The wedding was in New Orleans, but we worked hard to incorporate and honor his culture during the weekend celebration.
On Friday night, we had a traditional Mehndi celebration with Pakistani food, dancing and lots of bright colors. It was gorgeous and so much fun! We then had our traditional Catholic ceremony on Saturday followed by a Second Line, where guests paraded down the streets of the French Quarter waving handkerchiefs and are led by a brass band to the reception. It might seem extra, but we love Mardi Gras and wanted to bring that spirit into our wedding!Â
WHAT WAS THE MOST SPECIAL MEMORY FROM THAT DAY?
My favorite memory from the day was probably the private dinner Sameer and I had up on the balcony of our reception venue right after the wedding. We could overlook the entire venue and see people filling in for cocktail hour, but we were hidden away enough that we got to enjoy each other, some champagne and much needed dinner.
It was only about 20 minutes, but it was the perfect time to be together and enjoy the excitement of being newly married before going down to the party and dancing the rest of the night away with our friends and family.Â
Cheers to Sophie and Sameer!
