The proposal

From the bride: Brad proposed on the day we purchased our first home together. We invited our families over to see our house, and as we all gathered in our front garden “making plans” for dinner, he pulled me in for a hug and his heart was pounding! The next thing I know, he is on one knee, saying the sweetest words about that day being the first of our forever together and asking me to be his wife. I was so excited and teary that I’m not sure if I actually said “yes!”, even though he knew by my reaction. Little did I know, there were already dinner plans made at our favorite restaurant to celebrate with both of our families. It was the perfect engagement for us–low key and with our very favorite people, our families!

Finding the perfect wedding dress

I wanted to look timeless but romantic on my wedding day. Thankfully, one of my best friends and bridesmaids runs a bridal shop and made the shopping experience so fun and effortless. When I started showing her photos of bridal looks that I liked, she knew that the Martina Liana Separates line would be perfect for me. Sure enough, she was right! Just a few dresses into shopping, I put on the Cayla Corset and Shae Skirt and was speechless. It was the exact effortless beauty that I had always dreamed of wearing on my wedding day! I ended up having some custom off the shoulder sleeves made of the same silk from the skirt for one more romantic touch, that I wore for the ceremony and took off for the reception.

The wedding details

Our wedding had a very classic, vintage vibe. We were married in the garden of a historic, southern home. The property made my wedding vision so easy to achieve! The ceremony was held at sunset, with the aisle lined with candlelit lanterns. We carried the candlelight idea into the reception with candlelit centerpieces. There were lots of ivory, blush and gold tones with greenery accents. We chose blush as one of our wedding colors to match my morganite engagement ring that Brad custom designed for me. (Still swooning over how beautiful it is!)

Our wedding was personal to our love story in several ways. First and foremost, our lives revolve around our nearest and dearest- our immediate families and a very tight-knit group of friends. We kept our wedding as intimate as possible with a guest list of roughly 80 people. We wanted to have time to celebrate with each of our guests, while still having time to relax and enjoy the day. Second, we made our wedding ceremony personal by having my brother officiate. The three of us wrote the ceremony together and carefully chose readings that would remind us the love we have for each other and the commitment we were making to build our lives together for the rest of our days. Last, we wanted our reception to be carefree and fun! We had a blast dancing the night away with friends- complete with a dance circle dance off!

The entire day was full of special moments, but our first look stands out as my favorite memory of the day. I remember so vividly walking up behind him, and when he turned around to face me, we both just melted. There were so many ‘happy tears’ and giggles that we had finally made it this day and it was so special to have that time carved out for just us to tell secrets, take each other in and get to enjoy our wedding day together!
