Military bride Katey said “I do” to husband Kyler in an uber-romantic DC wedding. Super classic, very traditional and oh-so-lovely, this bride chose a stunning strapless lace gown from designer Essense of Australia. We love how classic and cool this couple’s wedding turned out!
The proposal
Kyler and I were in Seattle for the day celebrating our 6 year anniversary. We spent the morning around Pike’s Place and decided to walk over to the space needle. We were sitting by the international fountain watching the water play to the music while we reminisced on the past 6 years. It was the perfect spot to do that because he had asked me to be his girlfriend in the same place the day after prom 6 years prior! I was looking at the fountain when he told me he had something for me and I turned to him and saw he had pulled out a ring box with the perfect rose gold ring! I was so excited and happy to be marrying my best friend.
Finding the perfect Essense of Australia wedding dress
I went dress shopping with Kyler, my mother in law, and sister in law at a shop in our hometown of Puyallup, WA, called Something Blue Boutique that one of my childhood friends owns. I didn’t have a style in mind, I just wanted a dress that I would be able to dance in and would be flattering on my body. The boutique was incredible and my friend helped me try on 7 or 8 dresses. I didn’t feel like any of them were quite what I was looking for so I just decided to try one more on and it looked amazing! The dress hugged my body just right and the sweetheart neckline was so flattering. I loved it and decided to buy it right then!
The wedding details
Kyler and I are both Army Medical Students stationed in Bethesda, MD, right outside of DC. We decided to get married down the street from where we live at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda to keep it simple with our hectic schedules. It was an incredibly beautiful day and turned out better than I ever imagined! Our colors were navy blue, rose gold, and white. We are both very easy going people and just wanted the day to be a fun time with our friends without a lot of the cliché wedding stuff. We made it into a day that represented us by having lots of cupcakes and an ice cream bar (we love dessert) as well as having both medical & Army themed mixed drinks. Everyone spent the evening dancing (even my parents) and the night was just a blast.
My favorite moment of the day was when Kyler and I snuck off after we took some pictures when the ceremony was over. It was the first time we were alone together the whole day! It felt intimate and magical to finally be married.
